Introducing the Editor-in-Chief

Dr. Eng. Habil. Florin-Dumitru Bora is a highly accomplished researcher in environmental sciences, agrochemistry, and food quality assessment, with a well-defined specialization in viticulture and oenological systems. He holds the highest academic qualification in research (habilitation), which certifies his capacity to independently supervise doctoral candidates and to lead advanced scientific research programs.

Dr. Bora completed his PhD in Horticulture (Viticulture) between 2012 and 2015 at the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca (Romania), where he developed advanced competencies in agronomic research methodologies, environmental analysis, and interdisciplinary scientific investigation. His doctoral training laid the foundation for his later work on trace elements, isotopic signatures, and environmental quality assessment in vineyard ecosystems.

Prior to his doctoral studies, he obtained a Master’s degree (2010–2012) in Methods of Analysis Used in Environmental and Product Quality Control from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (Baia Mare University Center). This program provided him with strong expertise in advanced analytical techniques, including atomic and molecular spectrometry, mass spectrometry, chromatographic methods, and chemometrics—skills that are central to his current research profile.

His academic formation is complemented by certified psychopedagogical training (Levels I and II) completed in 2013–2014 at the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca, which qualifies him for higher education teaching and doctoral supervision. In addition, he completed a Project Management specialization course (2013), further strengthening his competencies in research coordination, resource management, and organizational leadership.

Professionally, Dr. Bora is affiliated with the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca, where he has developed a sustained academic and research career, progressing to positions that involve doctoral supervision, research coordination, and advanced teaching activities. His habilitation status formally confirms his leadership role within doctoral education and his capacity to manage complex research directions.

His research portfolio is extensive and methodologically sophisticated, focusing on the multi-element analysis of soil–plant–wine systems, the detection of heavy metals and environmental contaminants, and the application of lead and strontium isotopic ratios as geochemical tracers for authenticity and geographical traceability. His work integrates cutting-edge analytical techniques such as ICP-MS and isotope ratio mass spectrometry, contributing to both environmental diagnostics and food safety sciences.

Dr. Bora is the author and co-author of a significant number of scientific papers published in Clarivate Analytics (Web of Science) and Scopus-indexed journals, including contributions in Q1–Q2 journals addressing environmental contamination, agroecosystem sustainability, and analytical chemistry applied to food systems. His studies on heavy metal dynamics, isotopic fingerprinting, and environmental risk assessment have contributed to advancing knowledge in both environmental sciences and applied agricultural research.

In addition to his publication record, he has actively participated in national research and development projects funded by the Romanian Ministry of Agriculture, contributing as a research team member in projects addressing climate change adaptation in viticulture, plant health, and sustainable agricultural technologies (2019–2022). These engagements demonstrate his capacity to operate within large-scale, multidisciplinary research frameworks.

Dr. Bora also possesses extensive experience as a peer reviewer for numerous international journals, including publications indexed in Clarivate and Scopus databases, reflecting recognition of his expertise within the global scientific community. His involvement in the peer-review process further underscores his familiarity with editorial standards, publication ethics, and scientific quality control.

From a managerial and leadership perspective, Dr. Bora combines strong analytical thinking with proven competencies in research coordination, academic supervision, and project management. His ability to synthesize complex datasets, manage interdisciplinary collaborations, and maintain rigorous scientific standards positions him as a capable leader in the context of academic publishing.

Overall, Dr. Florin-Dumitru Bora represents a well-rounded academic profile, combining solid formal education, sustained research productivity, international scientific visibility, and demonstrated leadership in doctoral and research environments. These attributes substantiate his capacity to assume the role of Editor-in-Chief, ensuring scientific rigor, editorial integrity, and strategic development within an international journal in environmental sciences.
